We are a class of Kindergarten students in a new Spanish Immersion Program with the desire to embrace the Spanish language through an integrated thematic approach.
Our class is comprised of 26 lively, bright, inspiring, energetic, inquisitive, loving and eager students from different social economic backgrounds with the common desire to be bilingual and biliterate in Spanish.
Many students receive free or reduced lunch, come from low social economic status and attend school with beautiful hearts and the desire to learn.
The Escalera package will provide my students with access to curriculum, books and resources that would shape and enhance their phonological and literacy framework.
We need the student materials with the accompanying teacher manual to fully implement the Escalera Literacy Program.
I envision my students engaged in lessons utilizing storybooks, phonics and games to develop key phonemic concepts taught within every lesson such as: vowels, letter sounds, blending and segmenting.
As a teacher, I have found that children enter Kindergarten with different levels of phonemic/phonics maturity. Materials requested will allow me to explicitly teach my students key phonics skills thereby giving them the resources needed to "break the code".
