Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 29 wonderful 5th-grade students, which include special education students, magnet students, English Language Learners, and intervention students. They are very enthusiastic about learning and are always eager to explore new things. They love coming to school every day, and always have a big smile on their faces, despite the socioeconomic hardships they endure in the community in which they live. They attend a school in California, in a low-income neighborhood. The school is both a regular and highly gifted/magnet institution. However, my students are part of the regular school and do not have access to the materials and enrichment activities that the magnet students have.
My Project
My students need 6 Botly robots and accessory packs to learn the basics of coding and programming with hands-on activities such as building obstacle courses and using the coding cards included in the kit. Students will work in groups to play the coding games so they can help each other throughout each level of the game. By allowing my students to "play", they will be able to acquire the fundamental skills in computer programming through move sequences, which get more complex as the game progresses.
I strongly believe that by providing students with a good foundation in computer programming and coding, they will be able to acquire the technological skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the future.
