This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The vast majority of my students come from a very poor socioeconomic background. We are a Title I school with over 90% free and reduced lunch. Our demographics consist of 89% African-American, 10% Caucasian, & 1% other. Students live in a community that has the lowest employment rates in the state.
Many do not have the basic tools they need to be successful in the today's modern society mainly due to the poor socioeconomic conditions they face on a daily basis.
My Project
Breaking the digital divide through technology is a major problem in rural communities. Bring technology to the students will allows students them to compete by providing them with the digital tools they need to be successful. Schools and universities today require digital learning, but many students in impoverished areas are lacking the basic tools they need to succeed.
Giving students the proper tools will allow them to compete and be successful in a digital world.
Once students are able to acquire their own Chromebook, it will be passed down to the next student who enrolls that needs one. It my goal to ensure that all students have the same opportunity as any other student in more affluent areas of the country.
