Our school is located in the midwest, Indiana to be more specific.
Our class is quite diverse with many talents and strengths represented. With such a curious and fun group, we are never at a loss for excitement.
We have established an overarching theme for our year, "First Graders Have H.E.A.R.T." Heart stands for, homes/families, environment (where we live), roads to reading (education), and turnips/tulips/trees (plants and caring for the world around us). Each day we strive to consider these aspects of our life.
My Project
Small group meetings during math and reading are often cumbersome in our room due to the lack of table space. Our current table is cramped and there is not enough room for our needed materials. It is routine for me to ask students to record ideas on whiteboards during small group work. We would get so much use out of this markable surface. This table would eliminate the need for whiteboards to be brought to the table and it would create a space for ideas to flow.
Students feel empowered when they are able to fully engage in a lesson or activity.
Students deserve a space with materials that best suit their needs. First graders are very hands-on, and enjoy the chance to share their thoughts. Having a new table like this would create the correct environment to help foster this desire.
