Our students are so excited to be learning in school! These emerging First Grade readers are in need of ruled dry erase boards. Our students range from very low income to middle income homes. Many students are considered "at-risk" in their reading assessments and need extra reading intervention support. One way to support literacy in students is learning to spell words. Using a dry erase board with ruled lines is a powerful tool for students to use. Our school has a limited amount of these primary dry erase boards and the ones that my class uses are in bad shape.
During our daily Skills Block time, my students practice blending sounds to decode words and then practice encoding words by writing them on a primary dry erase board. My students also use the blank side of the boards during math time to work out problems. This way students can show their work to others as well as build confidence in their thinking and writing by easily erasing mistakes and trying over again.
The current dry erase boards that my students are using are over 20 years old and are in bad condition.
