My Students

At the start of the school year we talk about "holding each other up" and our students bring this to our classroom on a daily basis. Students are seated in groups and instruction is student led. If you were a fly on the wall, you would not only witness full on collaboration but also the true sense of responsibility the students take on for learning and teaching those around them.

Students respect each other by listening, sharing, and questioning the mathematical techniques used by their peers.

I get the joy of not only being their teacher, but watching them create a community in our classroom.

My Project

As students progress in their mathematical career it is important to have tools to analyze, visualize, and represent various mathematical concepts. Graphing calculators can serve as a tool in the classroom, and as a resource at home, to make connections with mathematics to the real world.

In addition, if our school had these calculators, we could check them out to individual students enabling them to work at home, as well as in school.

Without these calculators, many of our students are underserved. Equity is very important to us as educators. These tools will help reduce the effects of economic inequity.
