Living in a rural town, many of the students of the school live in small communities of houses, or rent apartments. The school has a mix ethnically. Many families have moved up here after living in New York City and are establishing themselves in the United States.
These students have big hearts and open minds.
I hope to use the art room as a tool to further students' interests.
Many students do receive assistance for school lunches, and many families rely on the school for assistance throughout the school year. Additionally, there is a large population of English Language Learners at the school.
I would like to help supply families with art supplies that might not have access to them at home. As we are remotely learning through school students are faced with different challenges. Not only do they have to try to learn through technology, and are unable to socialize with their classmates and teachers but they may also lack the resources they were given in school.
Every student should have access to supplies.
As the art teacher I have been trying to give as much choice and flexibility in assignments because I do not know what resources students have at home. I would like to help families in need by providing markers, crayons, glue and scissors.
