I teach a self contained 12:1 class. I am a special education teacher. My students have various needs that require specialized designed instruction. The majority of my student struggle with ADHD, Generalized Anxiety disorder, intellectual disabilities. They all have strengths in visual processing and needs in receptive and expressive language at the sentence level.
I love the fact that my students are all creative and have a good sense of self.
I know they can produce great work but they are extremely uncomfortable sitting in the raggedy old chairs and desks. My students love collaboration. They work well with each other. They struggle to remain focus for a period of time but are willing to try new things. The environment they are forced to work in is not cozy and they often suggest I purchase been chairs or partitions to have a cool down space. We do not even have chrome books.
My Project
The items in my cart are essential for my students to engage in enriching discussions by writing on post its during think time. The permanent markers will assist them in participate in silent graffitis.
My students need collaboration and a push towards independence.
Therefore, these items need to be available for them to complete projects and illustrations for presentations. Students express their learning through Mind Mirrors and critiquing their peers work. The printer does not only help in creating packets, but Printed copies of historical documents are essential for gallery walks. Students will have more documents to analyze. It is important to provide a variety of resources.
