Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with students whom all have a disability, and therefore an IEP, but are diploma bound, in a school in the heart of Los Angeles. Although, my students struggle academically, there continuous resilience propels them to make strides towards reaching academic goals.
All of our students qualify for Free Lunch, just to give you an idea of the socio-economics of the neighborhood.
In order to continue to grow the need and access for technology is incredibly important for my students, and that is why I am on DonorsChoose.
My Project
The students will use the chromebooks while we work in stations. As I work with 1 group on a literacy standard, my T.A works with another group of students on another skill such as English conventions and two groups work independently. While they work independently I want the students to have access to the computers so they can practice the skills first encountered in station 1 and 2 as well as to watch media related to our unit theme.
Because most of my students have auditory and/or visual processing difficulties, the opportunity to engage with the material multiple times through technology will enable them to retain the information and expand their knowledge, and develop their writing.
