Today childhood obesity and inactive lifestyles are on the rise and it seems that physical education classes are where many children get the bulk of their activity. It is to easy to go home and play video games or watch television. Unfortunately with cutbacks in funding many schools can't afford to replace old equipment
I teach at a middle school located in Washington.
The student population is a wide mix of ethnicity and economic backgrounds. We have approximately 700 students all of which would use the equipment we are requesting. We have grades seven and eight at our school.
My Project
In the cold and rainy winter months of Washington, my classes are playing in indoor activities. The overall favorite by far is basketball. Unfortunately with budget cuts and other expenses I have not been able to keep our basketball inventory new. The basketballs I currently have are beginning to show signs of extreme wear and tear. Basketballs are probably our most used piece of equipment and it is a shame that we can't afford to get nicer basketballs for our school. I teach during a tutorial time and the end of the day as an incentive for good grades and it includes a basketball option, we have over 100 students lining up for the chance to play. Your donation to this project would help us provide basketballs that bounce correctly, have good grip and are not worn out.
This project will not only support our health and fitness program, but will also be used by students in my tutorial time, afterschool group and general student population.
This is a simple project that is relatively inexpensive, but will impact many many students.
