Waiting your turn in the gym is never easy when you are a kid. Not having enough equipment for the large class sizes we have is challenging for a physical education teacher. Some of the equipment we have is old and run down and doesn't work like it should.
I teach in a high poverty school where most of our students receive free or reduced price lunch.
The students in our building are some of the most loving and kind kids a teacher could ask to work with. They are eager to learn and are just begging for our attention as teachers. We have a very large Spanish-speaking population and work hard to make sure they are not left behind in anything they do during the day.
My Project
My students need 18 scooter boards and 16 volleyballs. I use the scooter boards a lot with all of my students. I serve all of the students in the building, grades K-6, so you can only imagine all the wear our equipment gets. Having enough scooter boards that work will really help me to make sure all students are able to be active for more minutes during class time.
I have also requested some volleyballs for the kids for our volleyball unit. We currently have no volleyballs that hold air. The old ones we have are also very hard on their arms. With new volleyballs the kids will be able to experience a sport they may have otherwise never been exposed to.
My ultimate goal as a physical education teacher is to prepare my students to be lifelong lovers of activity.
With your help and support of this project, I hope to be able to continue to show them the joy they can find in different sports and activities.
