For the children of PPS21, school quite frankly isn't always at the top of the priority list. There are other things to worry about: What's the safest route to walk home alone? Will my parents be home tonight? Is there anything in the refrigerator for dinner? Do I have any clean clothes to wear?
The unfortunate reality is that my students, my little kid students, face terribly adult problems.
Still, they do their very best, and I'm proud of that.
After participating in a number of professional development workshops, I realized something jarring: My students do not have access to online components for the curriculums we use in school.
Opportunities for play, practice, and true academic growth are available--we've just got to get our hands on some devices.
For far too long, my students have been held back simply because of a lack of resources. I won't allow for that to happen any longer. Help me as I launch my students into the 21st century with typing lessons, shareable content, PARCC practice, research and inquiry opportunities, and maybe even a few selfies!
