Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students have a worm inside of them who is hungry for learning but equally wiggly!
Our school community is low income.
We service many EL and below grade level students. The program I am in charge of is an intensive care unit for Reading. Each student was specifically chosen for the intervention program to gain skills in Reading. Our school is constantly trying to reach every student in order to meet their individual learning needs by placing them into catered services.
My Project
While students are building on their reading skills it is important for them to be able to focus. Students who have difficulty sitting still often do better when the brain is allowed to be stimulated by movement. How do you allow a student to move while reading without disrupting the tracking of words on the page or without jumping up and down from their chairs? The wobble chairs are the answer!
These chairs will replace regular classroom chairs. Students will still sit with me in small group, but the small movements that these chairs allow will help the students' brains to focus on the reading task. The students will use these chairs throughout the entire school day.
Donations to this project will improve the quality of the learning in the classroom by keeping students safe since there will be no more bending back in chairs, keeping the brain stimulated by allowing a student to fidget slightly but without disruption to the learning, and allow us as educators to cater to the needs of the learner by meeting brain demands in order to meet academic goals.
