Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Reading and writing go hand in hand. My Kindergarteners need current and relevant material to read as well as the Epson WorkForce printer to print out their informational books.
My students come into school every day eager to learn something new.
We are one of four kindergarten classrooms in a Title I school with close to 600 students. I currently have 24 students. The majority of my students are English Language Learners who need additional materials to support learning new vocabulary and skills simultaneously.
Many people have said that our school is a hidden treasure and for that reason it can be difficult to locate. Because we are tucked into a neighborhood, we do not receive as much community support to fund classroom needs as we need. Many of our teachers purchase items independently or seek funding for materials.
My Project
Leaving the classroom for a field trip is not always possible. The Weekly Readers, Science Spins, and Time for Kids magazines offer them many opportunities to learn about themselves and their world. The students will learn more about the world around them without leaving the classroom. Then they will create their own informational books about what they learned. However, creating books is better when you can print them too. They will learn and become more excited about their learning when they can print their books and share what they have learned with other students and their families. The combination of the three magazines and the printer will give them the introduction to reading and writing as they learn.
Your donation will offer my students needed items to move them from learning to read and write to reading and writing as they learn.
