My students are enthusiastic to learn despite the many challenges they face. I have 32 awesome students who vary tremendously in their abilities and interests. I try to present all content in a way that gets them excited to learn while at the same time being able to have success.
The school I teach at is located in a low income area surrounded by higher income schools.
My school was 1% away from being qualified as a Title l so we do not receive extra funding for being low income. With a lack of funding, it is extremely difficult to provide the exciting and challenging opportunities that my students need to improve.
My Project
Through the stream table kits, my students' curiosity will be piqued as they are able to observe geological features being formed including valleys and canyons. By having hand-on experiences, they will be able to formulate questions and experiment to find the answers. Students will be able to observe erosion and then, hypothesize ways to slow it down. With the hands on materials, students can test their hypotheses until they find some solutions. The books will help to reinforce my students' learning and show them examples of these land forms from around the world that they may never have the opportunity to see in person.
I believe that when students see the real world application of the content we are teaching, they will be more motivated to learn.
This motivation can lead to a greater understanding of the material. Students will also learn to value science and its importance to the world around us. Hopefully, this will lead to them wondering more about the phenomena they experience in their daily life.
