"In the end, we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are taught." This quote from BaBa Dioum, speaks to the heart of this environmental education art project.
My classroom is filled with 25 wonderfully diverse, energetic, and curious students!
Though my 3nd grade students have a wide range of interests and learning abilities, they share the love of learning about the world through active engagement and interactive learning. Our school is an inner-city school with 85% of students qualifying for free and reduced-price lunch. Most of our students are minority students facing many challenges in their lives.
You can help level the playing field by donating environmental education curriculum and learning materials that will enrich the quality of learning for my students.
My Project
Students will get creative and make a mural of our planet using recycled, colored plastic bags. The mural will show a pictorial representation of continents with rivers, lakes, and mountain ranges that includes grasslands, forests, wetlands, and deserts. Using the environmental education curriculum and activities, students will learn about the animals, plants, the soils and climate of wetlands, deserts, mountain regions, and forests. They will learn how interconnected our natural world is and the effect human activity has upon the earth. Students will study wetland ecology and learn how important marsh lands are to river water purification. Students will specifically study wetlands of Florida's Everglades with its diverse plant and animal life. Equipped with understanding of ecological systems, today's children will become the environmental problem solvers of tomorrow!
Disney is offering a 50-50 match for hands-on learning projects that foster creativity and help the environment.
Children love to create and making a mural of the natural earth from recycled materials seems like a wonderful way to meet that goal. You can help by donating to this project and help our children become the creative environmental stewards of tomorrow!
