Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am extremely excited about my classroom this year! I have 24 wonderful students. They love science and love working hands-on. They want to be able to capture the environment at their fingertips with a laptop; my dream as a teacher is that one day I will have a laptop for each of my students.
I teach 24 students with the limited resources available at school.
At times not having enough technology makes it difficult to teach my students visually, ideas cannot be conveyed proficiently without letting them experience it for themselves. By being able to learn about the environment personally outdoors, students will be engaged, they will type and document instantly about habitats near a pond at our school. They will take back their observations to the classroom, but also discuss their surroundings and use their findings on their research projects. Again we need your help with a laptop because without it, students simply cannot capture all the endless possibilities technology has to offer. My student population is extremely diverse and composed primarily of lower economically disadvantaged children where technology is almost nonexistent at home, and many of whom never have access to a computer personally. Help us be able to introduce technology and all of its benefits to all.
My Project
My students need to have the opportunity to compete with opulent areas. They are already faced with many disadvantages and without current technology, they would fall behind because they would not have easily accessible information and they would unfortunately have a lower quality education. Given new technology, my students would be able to learn in ways that would present challenges to them that they would not otherwise have without technology. My students greatly value their education and through the use of a laptop, students will have access to doing research and projects not only indoors, but outdoors too. They will be able to share it and work in cooperative groups, but most importantly our entire class will finally be able to learn about environmental science without any limitations and have access to the environment at the palm of their hands. Our classroom needs contemporary technology to experience science outdoors and get students to think outside the box.
As you can see we have to function with numerous setbacks and this project would impact the lives of young learners and encourage them to strive for levels they never thought they could reach.
Furthermore, my project will allow my students an escape from their unfortunate position and engage them in ways that paper simply cannot. But, they need to have the tools and resources to reach academic success. We live in a society that is technology driven, we need to allow our students to experience it.
