Environmental School Wants to Expand Environmental Library

My students need additional environmental science materials including recycling activity kits, recycling books, and theme boxes.

My Students

Save our Earth! Our children attend an environmental science focus school and we are trying to help them learn why it is important to be considerate of the impact we have upon the earth. We want them to be aware of how they can make positive changes to live a green lifestyle.

Our students live in an inner city neighborhood in Virginia.

Many of them seldom have the opportunity to get out into the country. At our environmental science focus school, we are teaching them how to garden, how to use rainwater for their plants and how to help take care of the earth. For many of the students, working in the school garden is the only chance they get to experience working in the dirt and planting plants. Our school is working hard to teach them to appreciate the earth. We are teaching them how important it is to take care of our earth and working hard to show them how they can contribute to helping do their part.

My Project

Our project will help our students continue to work on their reading skills while they also are learning about important science concepts. As I mentioned, many of the students don't have the opportunity to work in a garden as they live in apartment buildings. Without having a yard and woods to explore in, they are limited in their knowledge about the natural world. The science libraries we are requesting will be beneficial for the children to learn about many scientific concepts in a fun and entertaining way. They will have the chance to practice and work on their reading skills as they are learning content area for science. The selection and variety of books will give them many new concepts to learn about.

It is important for all children to develop a love and appreciation of the natural world we live in.

It is rewarding when they discover how a rainbow is formed, how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly or how a tadpole turns into a frog. With your support our students can spend hours reading and learning about the wonders of nature.
