Entrepreneurship for Special Learners - Teaching Financial Literacy Skills
My students need jewelry making supplies, beads, charms, clasps, and chains, for our special needs school workshop. Students will be trained on how to assemble and then sell them for classroom fundraising.
My classroom of special learners established their own school-based business. They love creating new products in our production center. They then hold sales in our school and community as a classroom fundraiser. The business teaches our special students critical life skills of running a business.
My students are exceptional people, eager to love and learn.
Our student business consists of my students as well as 16 typical peers. We all work together as a team to teach valuable life skills such as production, job skills, running a business and taking inventory. All proceeds from our fundraising go back into our classroom to purchase needed supplies.
My Project
Students will utilize the jewelry making products, beads, charms, clasps, and chains, in our school workshop. Through on the job training students will be able to assemble some beautiful products to sell in our school and community. Students will keep track of sales, inventory, and profit, thus fostering their financial literacy skills for life. Your donation to our student business will allow students to receive the following: financial literacy skills, job training skills, cooperative work with peers, community involvement, and most of all self-confidence.
When students create products for the business and see that people are proud of their work, it changes them forever.
An additional bonus to our business is being able to purchase needed supplies for our classroom. Students will track all sales, inventory, and profit margins. They will then determine what items need to be purchased for the workshop/classroom with their earnings.
