My students need tools to catch and observe bugs, like Bug Podz Habitat, Magnifying glasses, microscope slides and a portable microscope to attach to our iPad.
Commerce is a small city school which has a culture of hardworking and wonderful students. We may not have the money of bigger systems but we have the support of the community and teachers which pour their heart and souls into kids.
At Commerce, we have to make a little money go a long way.
We select resources which can be used by multiple grade levels and classes and truly share all of our instructional materials. Otherwise, we would not be able to afford to offer high-quality educational experiences to students.

My Project
In order to inspire future entomologist and help kids see the wonderful the world of bugs, we need some tools to go out and collect the bugs- such as butterfly nets and critter catchers. We will use microscope slides to observe the bugs that we cannot catch in our location and a handheld microscope to look at them up close while we are out around the school.
Nature is all around us but lately I have noticed that our young people are not getting out and exploring like we did when I was a kid- I have more and more students each year who have never caught a butterfly or seen bugs up close.
The field guide to bugs, along with the Bug-o-pedia will help us learn more about the insects we catch and help share that knowledge in a partnership with the younger Primary Students.
While technology is wonderful, many are spending more time on their devices and less time out in nature. I hope to inspire them to spend more time looking around them and marveling at the world and not missing so much looking down at their devices.
