Our students come from varied cultural and economic backgrounds; every student learns. We focus on effort bringing achievement. The students know that they are the key to their learning. Our students know that they can overcome every challenge and situation so they can choose to learn on their terms. They know that success is theirs!
They are hungry to learn and succeed.
They know that their work will strengthen their weaknesses and continue to grow their strengths. They do Math, Spelling, and Reading homework daily. They memorize and recite one Poem every Term, which is about every six weeks. They write daily in class, and they review and edit their writing to produce a final paper at least once every few weeks. They are learning to analyze and solve current real-world problems. They know that they can be a positive force for good in the world!
We want to hold our first-ever Elementary School Chess Tournament (and future ones, too!), and this package will make it happen! Chess is such a wonderful, mentally invigorating game. Our first tournament will involve grades three through five. We are so excited because our charter school is always looking for ways to challenge our amazing students mentally. Additionally, as the fifth-grade teacher, I hope to begin to teach our students that one reality of life is competition. Students will learn through chess that hard work, a positive attitude, and practice will help you get through struggles and setbacks and lead to growth and success!
Chess is the perfect, classic game that helps students begin to really grow their decision-making and step-by-step strategic thinking that comes in so handy and seems to be needed so regularly in life.
We need two of the bulk packages that each come with 12 chess sets. This way, we will be able to host 48 participants at a time. Additionally, the two chess clocks will allow us to host the playoff / tie-breaker matches as they normally would be in a tournament, and teach those important chess skills of clock and game management, too.
These sets will also be used in our school's classrooms, as well, during the school year in-between tournaments. We are really excited for this DonorsChoose project because we will be able to really get a following to build at our school for the amazing game of chess. This is going to be a really positive addition to our school!
