Enticing special needs students to learn through science.
My students need a color mixing kit, instant snow kit, Jelly Marbles kit, Glitter bug Lotion, Large Black Light, Water Cube kit, Mini Plasma Kit, and an Ooze Tube.
If you step inside my classroom, you will see that my students participate in a vast array of activities. Some of these include cooking activities as well as craft projects. They also participate in science activities that allow the practice of critical skills in a fun way.
I teach 6th through 8th graders at the middle school level.
Many of these students come from difficult environments and are never taught how to develop leisure skills and to use their creativity. Many students I teach have Autism, and the creative arts are an outstanding outlet for relieving stress, as emotional regulation is a huge challenge for them. The students in my school are between 70 and 80% low income, and many of the students in my class are very poor. They have many strikes against them so that is why I feel it is important to nurture them both in the areas of the reading/math areas as well as the social/emotional areas.
My Project
In order to allow these students to achieve to their fullest potential, it requires many materials that are utilized for creating things as well as for cooking skills. The varied science activities that I have requested will allow the students to practice eye-hand coordination as well as direction-following skills. They will also allow the students to practice some measurement skills. Language skills are often developed in these highly engaging activities that have been requested.
Your help will allow my students to live a healthier, happier, and much more productive lifestyle.
It will help to greatly reduce their behavior problems, to feel good about themselves, and to develop critical skills that many people learn incidentally. I believe that it is people like you who can make a child want to live rather than feel so defeated with themselves that they can become very depressed. (Some of my students battle depression.)
