Research continues to reinforce what many educators have known for years: students' social and emotional well-being can have a profound impact on their learning -for better or for worse.
My classroom serves a compassionate and insightful group of Kindergarten through 5th-grade students with emotional disabilities, who work tirelessly each day to grow and improve.
Through exciting group dynamic exercises, problem-solving challenges, weekly goal setting, and small group discussions, my students develop resilience, reflection, and a desire to help themselves and others each and every day.
Many of my students struggle to remain calm and responsible on the bus for 1-4 hours; with Kindle Fires, loaded with breathing apps, and age appropriate games, my students will be able to remain responsible and calm during their usually long (and occasionally epicly long) bus rides to/from school.
As the only elementary program for students with emotional disabilities in a rural/mountain school district, 4 of my students have bus rides that can last from 1-4 hours each way -depending on adverse winter weather.
I am hoping to gain funding to buy them each a Kindle Fire for their bus rides.
