Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My scholars are a tight knit group in a very small school (K-8), where most have grown up together since Kindergarten. Our school has a great feeling of family. They look out for each other, even at this tough age. They have HEART: they Have a positive attitude, they Expect success, they Accept responsibility, they Respect themselves and others, and they Think before acting.
I am inspired by my scholars each and every day.
They are explorers, inventors, creators, critical thinkers, engineers, and mathematicians.
My Project
There are so many different career paths to choose from and I want to make sure my scholars have the opportunity to get experience in as many fields as possible. One topic we have not yet been able to venture into is the coding and robotics fields. This is a high interest topic and I know many of my scholars may find their passion in it.
The best way to prepare my scholars is to give them the experiences and tools to help them find their passion(s) and then make the right choices to start down that road in high school and then in college.
Your support will fund 12 SPRK and STEAM educational robots and protective cases. These robots will have limitless potential in my students' hands. This tool connects with an educational app that allows for three different ways to learn coding. It also connects 21st century skills, technology, and collaborative STEAM activities. It allows for use on various platforms and is a great introduction to both coding and robotics. The Sphero.com/education website has a lesson database of projects to complete - giving us a great foundation to start from.
My goal is to integrate this into our regular classroom activities with additional time given after to those who are really interested in the subject. I am excited to give this opportunity to my scholars with your support!
