I am a special education teacher and I work with children with a range of disabilities. I have students with autism, ADHD, intellectual processing disorder, behavioral disorders, and many students that are English language learners and speak English as a second language.
My students need to experience a classroom that goes beyond pencil and paper.
In order for me to go the extra mile and plan activities that are engaging and help them learn, I would love to have more technological resources in my classroom as well as basic school supplies.
My students come from all different socioeconomic backgrounds but they are a group of brilliant students that genuinely want to learn. They just need the right outlets to show their gifts.
My Project
I am moving up to middle school with my special education students to teach them science. They need a classroom that is very hands-on and experiential. The items in this project will help the science standards come to life for them and bring a deeper understanding to astronomy and earth science. These concepts are hard to grasp with little-to-no background knowledge and disabilities in reading which most of my students exhibit. Help me give them a classroom that they can walk in to and see the solar system, examine the layers of the Earth through models, and create meaningful experiments!
