This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school serves students in Grades K-8. I teach 21 active and curious first graders from diverse ethnic backgrounds! I also teach an intervention group for 14 other first graders who are approaching grade level reading. Our students have a genuine interest in technology and our primary students are developing strong literacy skills using traditional (paper) and digital methods.
We are a public charter school which receives Title I funding, with 87% of our students coming from low-income households and eligible for Free and Reduced Price lunches (FRL).
My Project
Thanks to generous support received through Donors Choose, our classroom library was recently updated to support my first graders in their reading development. In addition, I partnered with several friends to purchase 13 tablets in order for my students to be able to consistently access different learning activities online. I am humbled by the support that I received to adequately design an atmosphere where meaningful learning can occur daily.
Every child deserves to enter a classroom that contains all the necessary resources that he or she needs to learn on "a level playing field".
I am committed to doing everything within my power to ensure that my current and future students are able to engage in learning without enduring delayed or modified lessons because something is malfunctioning or lacking in their classroom.
Your gift will provide: headphones that will enable my students to complete online assessments and access digital learning programs in a quiet setting; a hand scanner to track books in our classroom library; general classroom supplies that support literacy and mathematics learning centers; and additional storage for classroom materials.
