Smartboards. Laptops. Personal Computers. Advanced technology is becoming more common and prominent in classrooms today; however, that reality is slow-going for the students at my school. Our students do not even have the luxury to have individual textbooks in all subjects.
Our students live in an impoverished community where basic school supplies are difficult for some families to purchase.
The children are eager to learn and our teachers work as hard as possible to push students to their fullest potential given the resources we have. The children face numerous challenges in and out of school--challenges many adults have never even faced and cannot bear to imagine. Still, the children come to school every day ready to learn and work hard.
My Project
Learning to share is a necessity at our school, especially since resources, including books, are limited. The children love to read and get excited by brightly colored pictures and topics that are interesting to them. If they could have ownership of reading material--material that they could even take home and keep--it would inspire them and help them become better readers. This is why I am hoping to receive a subscription to Time for Kids! Most of the students do not have many books (or any books) at home, so being able to take home weekly issues of Time for Kids would be extremely beneficial for them!
I have received issues of Time for Kids in the past for my class and the students absolutely loved them.
They looked forward each week to receiving "mail" and it really helped their reading skills develop even more. I would now love to include my entire grade so that all of the children could benefit from such a wonderful publication!
Edition 2 (Grade 2) TIME For Kids is a weekly classroom newsmagazine that motivates kids to read. Edition 2 (geared towards 2nd grade students) helps build critical skills during this pivotal grade. Issues cover a wide range of real-world topics and themes kids love to learn about and it s the best nonfiction text you ll find!
