My students are creative, inspiring and enjoy learning, especially through reading!
They are all working to the best of their ability and truly enjoy coming to school every day. However, my students all live in urban communities with little to no access of rich literature, except when they come to school and even that is limited. Most book baggies should be filled with 10-15 books each week, making sure students have ample enough time to read within our reading block and at home with their parents. My library isn't sufficient enough for this time of book volume to ensure my students reading success. They need your help!
My Project
My students shop for books (change their books in their home and school baggies) 1 time per week; we don't have a sufficient amount of books for multiple shopping throughout the week. When it is their time to shop, many of the "fun & interesting" books are gone since we don't have multiple copies of them. With this project, you will be giving my students opportunities to read what they want, not just what was left. Would you enjoy reading if you weren't interested in the book? Probably not! Let my students choose the books they want and are available.
The big books will allow me to fully instruct my students through a balanced literacy approach; one that has been successful through research.
I just need the physical resources to achieve this success.
