This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a school-wide Title I school, 100% of our children participating in the free breakfast and lunch program. Our school was struggling with accreditation but we have been working hard as students and staff to reach our goals the past two years and make accreditation!
Our students love recess and we recently got two basketball hoops installed around our blacktop area.
During lunch and recess hours you can find many students playing basketball, soccer, or on our playgrounds.
My Project
Research shows that students need to have time away from their desks and learning to relax, recharge, and spend some time socializing with friends in the fresh air.
Our school currently had two basketball hoops installed in our large outside area, but the only basketballs we can use consistently (sometimes PE is using them and cannot be borrowed!) are those bought by the teachers.
Some classes have balls to play with while others do not, it can be hard to share 2 balls when 4 or more classes are outside to play at the same time. Providing more basketballs, kickballs, and soccer balls will help provide more options for all students to play when they want.
