My students are a bright and engaged bunch of second graders. They are such a loving bunch of kids who love to give me daily hugs and smiles. They love learning, especially reading. Whenever they have any free time, they are always asking if they can read. I read to my students every morning and you can see the excitement in their eyes when I ask them questions about the books we have read and they can answer them.
We have a classroom library but sadly, they are going through all of my books so quickly.
I would love to be able to give them more choices so that I can continue to ensure their love of reading.
My Project
I have always been a reader and I told my second graders at the beginning of the year that my goal was to instill the love of reading in them too. My students talked about the latest video games or shows that they saw on tv when school started this year. Slowly, I saw a transition as the year went on. My students came into the classroom exclaiming the newest book they read or they found a series of books that they want me to read in class. I read to my students every day and it is wonderful to see the excitement in their faces as I read. I want to continue to grow their love of reading but my library is limited. I would love to be able to give them more choices so that they can find books that make them want to keep reading!
