This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a K-5 Magnet Arts school that integrates the arts into everyday learning. We have a diverse population of students stemming from various economic and ethnic backgrounds. About 50% of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
My school's mission is to explore the use of one or more of the arts in engaging and developing student problem solving, critical thinking and 21st century skills.
The students are very creative and have great potential to go far in their learning with arts integration. My school looks forward to collaborating among the staff to provide our students with the best learning experience.
My Project
All of my students are beginning to learn how to play instruments. Many of the students don't have access to the funds needed to purchase their own reed. Receiving these reeds will allow my students to not stress over the inability to participate in class.
These reeds will allow my students the opportunity to learn to play the Clarinet and Alto Saxophone.
Having reeds for my students will allow them to learn at the same rate as their classmates. Without the reed, a clarinet and saxophone cannot produce a sound. The reed vibrates against the mouthpiece to produce the sound.
