My Students
My 1st graders are aspiring motivated students. Many of my students come from a low-income household and English is a second language at home. They are excited to learn but don't have the supplies or parent support needed at home to enhance their reading. They all try their hardest when they come to school. The area they come from is Humboldt Park, which is a low-income area. I have many students who have parents in jail, homeless, and a difficult home life, yet they continue to come school and try their best in everything they do.
My Project
Many of my students don’t have books or parent support to help them read at home. Also many don't have access to a library where they can pick out books based off of their reading level and interest. By having leveled books in my classroom my students can read books that they feel confident in and enjoy reading. Many of the books that my students have are printed books that are made from the copying machine. By having colored books, they can be excited when it comes to independent reading. Also having hands-on manipulatives allows them to practice spelling and building their sight words in a fun way. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
