Enhancing the Learning Environment: Alternative Seating and More!
My students need alternative seating such as the lap desks and flex chairs to enhance their learning environment, as well as the clocks to further their understanding of our unit on telling time.
My school's community is comprised of low income families. While there is a common desire for our students to succeed, many of my students enter the school year behind. This combined with a lack of resources, poses many challenges. However, I found that my students had a strong desire to grow. Furthermore, they each had their own unique qualities that positively contributed to the classroom environment. They are ambitious, and are deserving of an education that will foster their ability to fulfill their goals.
I am about to enter my second year of teaching, and I am beyond excited to see what this year's group brings to the table.
I remain firm in my belief that children deserve the best education possible. This includes having a classroom environment that fosters the opportunity to thrive. My students are capable of so much, and I am constantly reminded to never underestimate them. While this year will undoubtedly have its own set of challenges, I am confident in the abilities of this year's third grade class, and absolutely cannot wait to see how much they grow both academically and personally!
My Project
This project consists of two different categories of supplies: flexible seating and curriculum materials. Each of these materials will play an essential role in enhancing my classroom's learning environment.
Throughout my first year of teaching, I found that my students preferred, and worked much more effectively, when given the chance to escape their desks.
The flexible seating I have requested such as lap desks and floor seats will be very useful for center work. Centers are a vital part of early learning, and having more flexible seating will be conducive to making centers run smoothly. Moreover, in giving them more options of where to sit, my students will be able to make the space work for them, and be more productive in their classwork. This will not only increase their academic growth, but make the classroom environment more enjoyable.
Another resource I found to be missing were model clocks for my students to practice telling time. Last year during this unit, many of my students clearly needed additional resources to better understand how to tell time. The clocks I have requested will provide a hands-on resource for my kids to use, thereby furthering their understanding of an essential skill.
