Help me give my students a classroom rug that will expand their learning space and be a comfortable area when reading a book, completing an assignment, or simply teaching whole group lesson.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a group of dynamic 4th grade students. These students come to school on a daily basis eager to learn and full of excitement. One of their favorite spots is the rug. They enjoy reading a good book, completing assignments, or simply researching a given topic online. Another thing my students have is a sense of humor. There is never a dull moment because there is always something they say or do that makes the whole group laugh out with excitement.
My Project
As I introduce or review new standards my students always enjoy finding a comfortable spot on the rug to sit. The problem is that the rugs have been at the school for the past 20 years, longer than I have been teaching. When it is lifted up, there is so much dirt underneath. The classroom environment should be inviting, engaging, and clean for all students. However, I don’t feel that is the case. I would love to know when my students are on the floor to read a book, using their laptops, or completing an assignment that their little heads are not on dirt.
