I teach at a school where many of the students receive free or reduced lunches. Many of them have yet to experience being outside of their community and face many hardships, but they always come to school with a smile on their face.
My students are vibrant, creative, hard working, inquisitive, and they love to learn!
Their eyes just light up when they are given fun and engaging activities that enhance their learning. They are eager to learn and always try their best in everything they do.
This novel highlights the story of a young Native American girl that encounters many obstacles. This story will also be integrated with our Social Studies unit on Native American culture. In addition to learning about Native Americans, this novel will be used to teach reading comprehension strategies that is extremely important for students. Students will be able to make predictions, summarize, make connections, use context clues, make inferences, and draw conclusions from the reading.
This powerful story will be a wonderful resource in helping students learn crucial reading comprehension strategies.
The easel pads and clipboards will be a very useful resource when reading and collaborating on the carpet. I will use the easel pads for creating anchor charts and while modeling specific reading/writing strategies and examples. The clipboards help students practice my teaching point right away while they are on the carpet.
