Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn." - Unknown. This quote clearly expresses the my overall feeling in regards to the seating options available for my Language Arts class each day.
My students are a diverse group of students with varied learning needs encountering their first year of middle school in rural Southeastern New Mexico.
Not only are their emotions evolving, but their physical bodies and kinesthetic needs require them to be moving and less confined to a traditional desk-only classroom, rather working in a classroom with alternative and modern seating options. Being limited in seating options in my classroom leaves students, especially those with ADD/ADHD, feeling anxious for more movement and physical space to learn in my class. My students crave engagement with technology and the ability to move and learn, in addition to a space where they feel relaxed and at home; with your donation of chairs and technology desks, they could achieve this. These kids would love a space where they can rely on modern learning and seating every day, where they can learn quickly, and remain engaged because they are comfortable in an alternative seating classroom.
My Project
A few of our classroom furniture items are needing to be replaced, along with adding some items to make technology use more effective. By upgrading furniture and adding lap desks and laptop carts, my students will be able to continue to enjoy their flexible seating classroom and use student computers more easily. Incorporating these items into our every day classroom use will continue to make learning more enjoyable and accessible for all of my students' varied learning styles. Students' physical movement needs will be addressed in addition the furniture needed to make their academic working space work to its highest potential.
