Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are ages 3-5 and have an educational diagnosis of autism. My students attend a 5 1/2 hour specialized preschool autism program where they work on functional communication skills, self-help skills, and pre-academic skills. Most of my students are non-verbal and are visual learners. Due to COVID my students are doing distance learning currently.
My Project
I will be using these materials to engage my students during Zoom meetings where I run a daily circle time. My students are currently participating in distance learning due to the virus. All of my students have individualized education plans and have an educational diagnosis of autism. They struggle with attending and are visual learners. With these materials I hope to engage my students during the Zoom circle time meetings so they can enjoy learning from home. I will be using the materials to do my daily circle time through Zoom. With the materials I will be doing story time with the puppets so the students can work on their pretend-play skills. Also I will be reading the story books with the use of the puppets to engage them during story time to work on their goals of large group attending. The materials will also help my students develop listening skills they will need as they enter kindergarten and it will also greatly help with their language development skills.
