Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class consists of 24-second-grade students who are eager to learn. We are based in the Silicon Valley in San Jose. As a Title I school, the majority of the students are English Language Learners and qualify for free or reduced-price lunch (87% of the school). These students have the drive to learn but do not always receive the home support and resources they need in order to be successful. My students deserve the best educational experience and a safe and supportive environment for their growth. Help us give these children everything they deserve!

My Project

The Scholastic News program provides an engaging way for students to learn about various informational topics. The monthly articles are used as part of our English Language Development (ELD) program.

Students absolutely love engaging reading topics.

The Scholastic News program provides just that. Students are also able to watch short videos on the magazine's digital component. There are also printables for students to practice reading and writing skills that are based off the current week's magazine. Students are also able to participate in fun and engaging skills games that also correlate with the magazine issue. This program is well liked by our students, and we want to make sure we are able to continue to provide this mode of learning to them.
