Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are wonderful and have so much potential to grow and become fantastic citizens of the world. Our school is a community school in Danbury, CT. Our students are resilient and consistently impacted by life concerns that no child should have to endure such as parental deportation, poverty, abuse and neglect, and hunger. Even with adversity, our kids come to school every day with smiles on their faces and the sense of security and safety.
My students need to experience Storytelling in a distinct social and cultural experience that will enhance literacy skills.
My goal is to provide students with a unique presentation on multicultural storytelling to reinforce writing and literacy. The students will get to be part of an audience with a renowned storyteller who will demonstrate a link between oracy and literacy.
My Project
My students need to experience Storytelling in a distinct social and cultural experience that will enhance literacy skills. For a diverse school population, this is an opportunity to be a exposed to a multicultural education. Many storytellers, educators and researchers advocate that storytelling can contribute significantly to early literacy development.
The students will get to be part of an audience with a renowned storyteller who will demonstrate a link between oracy and literacy.
Len Cabral will come and perform two concerts, one for K-2 and another for 3-5. The concerts will last for 45 minutes where our students will be engaged in cultural stories and learning literacy skills in a different way.
