No matter where a student comes from, what language they speak, or what their interests are, once they walk into our classroom they are part of a family that learns and grows together. I am a big believer in building relationships, and I love seeing how happy my students are to greet one another each and every day. I am so proud to be their teacher, and it has been so exciting watching them grow every single day. I strive every day to ensure that all 18 students receive and education tailored to their unique needs and interests.
I work in a Title I school, where the population is 100% free/reduced breakfast and lunch.
While the area is rather impoverished, the community has rallied together behind the students. We are the only school in our district that has an extended school day. We get to be with our students an extra hour every day to offer them intense interventions that suit each student’s needs.
My Project
As a second grade teacher, I have students reading on multiple levels from kindergarten to third grade. Several of my students are also English Language Learners who are still working to build strong foundations in literacy. I strive every day to ensure that each student works at a level that is appropriate for them to help them grow and become more fluent readers. My class will use these activities while in small homogeneous groups, working on their specific levels to ensure that each child's specific needs are met.
Literacy activities such as these help students stay engaged in the learning process.
These games will help students fill in gaps so that they can achieve mastery, and have fun while doing it!
