This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students attend school within what is labeled as a "Transformation Zone," a zone earmarked for growth due to lack of continuous progress as demonstrated by standardized test scores. As a result of this label and targeted interventions, the school experiences high teacher turnover rates, which ultimately affect student success.
Our students, however, are resilient and have strong personalities that draw you in and make you root for their success.
These students have grit and determination, and their thirst for knowledge and engagement is evident and even palpable within every space they occupy.
My Project
I teach remediation to students in ninth grade, which means that my students struggle when it comes to reading comprehension and writing. My grade-level partner and I have been teaching grammar skills using Quill.org free version in an effort to enhance our students' writing. We have both reached a point, however, where the capabilities of the instructional technology are now limiting what our students are able to do on the site.
To continue to push our students to uncover their true writing potential, we need to purchase Quill's premium version because this technology will increase our students' understanding of grammar as they work through the practice exercises on parts of speech, types of sentences, and a variety of other grammar activities (which will, ultimately, enhance their writing capabilities!).
Anything you can do to help us get back to the basics with our students will be greatly appreciated!
