Mrs. Simmons from Charlotte NC is requesting reading nooks, desks & storage through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a rug, a bean bag chair, a bookshelf, and an electric pencil sharpener for a more comfortable, brighter, decorative, and welcoming classroom library that will draw them in, encouraging them to want to read more, and reap the benefits of enhancing their reading strengths becoming better readers.

I am going into my first full year of teaching. I worked with a wonderful group of second grade scholars from January-June. They were very hardworking and determined to learn. We wrote so much and the scholars were eager to write so they could learn as much as possible and doing so they would go through about 1 and 1/2 packs of pencils every week.
We are in a Title l setting.
I don't want this to hold my upcoming second graders back so I am hopeful that we are blessed with donations for classroom necessities. Parents provide as much as they can, I bring resources in also, however, I want to be able to provide even more for my scholars to improve our classroom environment.
The materials I have selected are a part of my vision to build stronger readers in my classroom. I have spent countless hours coming up with ways to encourage scholars to have as much of a love for reading as I did in 2nd grade and still do. Due to this love for reading, I have hundreds of books to add to my classroom library but I know this is simply not enough to get the students drawn in. I noticed the scholars love bright colors and more welcoming, comfortable spaces in comparison to reading at their desks every day during independent reading time. I have also included an electric pencil sharpener due to the fact that there are very few in our school, and with all the writing, pencils are always breaking.
Having a space of comfort, where the scholars can drift away into a good book and fully focus on what they are reading will spark their imaginations more and help them to build stronger reading levels as they focus more on the book and not having to find a comfortable space to read.
I selected a colorful bookshelf and a beautiful curtain, along with a coordinating rug and some comfortable seating options to reward students and show them how important reading is to me, and should be to them as well. This decor will certainly draw readers in. The students will be excited to be able to spend their time in our new classroom library. Having this project funded will play a major role in literacy in my classroom. Thanks so much for reading about one of my plans to help enhance reading for my students.
