Enhance Reading and Technology Opportunities for Students
My students need Ipads for multiple visual and audible opportunities to physically manipulate learning through reading, listening, and communicating to meet their needs.
Everyday we are bombarded with stimuli and we respond in the various ways we are capable of responding. My students however, don't have those same skill sets or abilities to manipulate their environment and make sense of the endless information that comes across the airwaves.
I teach 4th and 5th grade students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
All of my students have different learning and communication needs and would benefit from enhanced opportunities. The levels of instruction in my classroom span 5 grade levels due to receptive and expressive language delays that keep many of my students from learning at a normal or consistent pace. Students with autism generally do very well with technology and growth some times happens quicker do to some of the sensory and stimulation that occurs. Some of my students attend full inclusion with their regular education peers, and with additional growth, more of my students could participate fully.
My Project
Ipads would provide opportunities for my students to show what they know through multiple methods. Many students with autism are highly motivated when provided with technology that stimulates their neurons. I believe these resources that my district can't afford will allow my students to grasp ideas and concepts quicker and participate more fully. Many of my students will benefit from using Ipad's due to their limited fine motor skills and will have more opportunities to participate in the classroom by showing off their skills and building confidence in who they are as learners and as individuals.
Donations to this request will help students be more motivated and be able to show growth in ways they typically can't.
My students might have a disability, but they still deserve a chance to learn and communicate with the world around them.
