My students need clearly defined boundaries for class read-alouds; this calming, colorful A-Z Animals rug is perfect! Additionally, exploring 'Listen to Reading' in our new flexible seating classroom makes these 4 personal CD players ideal.
We are a Title I school reaching students from a variety of backgrounds, including a significant EL population. Our staff operates as a professional learning community, ensuring teamwork and a best-practice approach that keeps each child visible and valued.
As first graders, my students will be coming into the year as self-proclaimed "experts" on this whole school thing, bursting with energy and enthusiasm, and ready to explore all that learning has to offer.
My goal is to provide a safe, comfortable, engaging environment that will awaken wonder, stir creativity, and allow these young learners the space, guidance, and inspiration to become who they are meant to be.
With your support, I have the opportunity to help all my students discover how they learn best, providing a foundation that will propel them on their journey as eager, self-aware, lifelong learners.
My Project
Step with me into a classroom where learning becomes an adventure of wild proportions! You have just entered Safari Room 108, a first grade space devoted to meeting little learners where they are and equipping them with the tools they need to advance on their journey.
Recognizing that no two learners are the same, I have been working all summer to reconfigure our space with flexible seating options; now I need your help to add the finishing touches.
My goal is to provide an atmosphere that:
* nurtures teamwork and classroom community
* allows individual students to explore their unique learning needs
* teaches respect for personal boundaries.
Here's what I envision: After gathering with their classmates on our beautiful new A-Z Animals rug -- each one in his or her own lettered square -- students will scatter to find the independent learning space that suits them best. For some, it will involve balancing on a stability ball or cushion. Others will choose to perch on a stool at a table-for-two or sprawl on the floor with jungle-print pillows. Wherever they land, they will have the freedom and flexibility to carry a personal CD player, listening through the durable headphones to an audio book read with the kind of fluency and expression they yearn to imitate.
Creating a learning space that is appealing and engaging for my students is important to me. With all the demands placed on these young minds and hearts everyday, I am confident that providing them with a welcoming classroom environment is a worthwhile investment. I so hope you agree!
