Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are bright, resilient, and courageous. As English language learners, they face many obstacles, but I desire to make their pathway to learning and acquiring language as easy and natural as possible. These requested materials would allow students to acquire language in an engaging manner while prioritizing learning that is appropriate for their level. I want each student to be challenged but also empowered by what they CAN do. Rather than having a deficit-based mindset, I want to find tasks and activities that pull on their strengths.
My Project
Each of these materials seeks to make the learning environment effective and engaging for my English language learner students. Visuals such as vocabulary flashcards help students retain information and make connections. Games such as "Guess Who" help students practice important questioning skills in an engaging manner. "Phrase It" will aid them in making connections and improving conversational/speaking skills. Each of these things is a tool that will serve to increase motivation as well as acquisition as it draws students in. They will help students develop foundational skills in a fun way so that they can become proficient English speakers and enjoy the process.
