This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a diverse group of students in grade 5 that have multiple cultural and linguistic backgrounds. All of my students are ELL learners. My students have multiple challenges, including poverty, language barriers, and lack of resources to their learning.
As ELL learners, all of my students have a first language different from English.
Some of my students speak Somali, Portuguese, French, Kinrwanda, and more. We come together in the ELL classroom to improve our English language skills in the four language domains of listening, reading, writing, and speaking. This is very difficult for my students, as they navigate using multiple languages between home, school, religious activities, and more.
My Project
I have chosen 2 resources to receive as part of my project. I have chosen headphones for my classroom, a set of 5, to allow my students to listen to audiobooks and educational videos on the iPads in my classroom.
This listening skill is one of four essential components of language learning.
Adding, one more iPad to my classroom would allow me to have available resources for all of my students, without having to hunt them down throughout the building. Having available and accessible resources for my students would help them to engage more smoothly in the learning process, especially in our small group pull out model.
