English Language Learners Need Engaging Remote Teaching!
Help me give my students what they need to get the most from remote teaching. I will use the iPad and Apple pencil as a whiteboard tool as I share my screen during remote teaching.
My students are English Language Learners that have a strong desire to learn and are very enthusiastic about coming to school. The neighborhood demographics have gradually been changing with more and more immigrants entering our school with the hopes of learning English and finding success in a new country. Our school is trying very hard to meet the needs of a very diverse group of students.
My Project
Every school has been faced with many challenges as the pandemic has slashed our budgets, as well as change the way we teach. Earlier when remote teaching had begun, I had used an iPad during my remote teaching sessions as a whiteboard and document camera to engage my students. Unfortunately, as more students required remote learning devices, I no longer have an iPad to use for teaching.
English language learners, especially those who have just started to speak, need highly engaging lessons when learning remotely.
The iPad and Apple Pencil will allow me to add a very helpful visual component to my lessons, which English language learners depend on to understand content while they are still building on their English listening skills. I find whiteboard applications, such as Educreations and Explain Everything, very helpful in creating drawings, diagrams, and videos to help my students learn. I also find the iPad very useful when I want to show students how I would annotate and mark up a reading passage. The keyboard will help me quickly take notes as students are learning, as well as serve as a protecting case for the iPad.
