Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 3rd grade to a group of students who make me smile every day. They are easy to teach because they come to school eager to dive into whatever subject we are focused on. They enjoy working independently and in groups and have grown to be a respectful and kind school family. They laugh at my jokes and seem to enjoy all aspects of the school day whether we are working on reading, math, science or art. It doesn't matter what the subject, they are developing a positive growth mindset each and every day.
My students love to learn, and they are excited about the challenge that comes from learning about engineering and science.
We have been working on engineering challenges all year, and my kids enjoy creating, redesigning and sharing their strategies and successes when faced with a new challenge. They are even excited when they fail because they know that failure often leads to success!
My Project
The use of engineering and STEM materials is a huge part of my teaching. I try and teach my students to think like scientists and engineers promoting a positive growth mindset. One of my goals this year is to get my students to persevere in any given task. I want them to feel comfortable with "grappling" through a problem or situation and these engineering and science materials will help me reach this goal.
My students all have the potential to become and do anything they wish...and by focusing on the engineering design process I will help them develop into critical thinkers.
With your donations, I plan on purchasing invention kits, science learning centers and a fully loaded STEM station to help me achieve my goal of helping to create future engineers and scientists. These materials are exciting and will be easy to implement into the science and engineering standards. When my students see "engineering" or "science" on the daily schedule their faces light up with anticipation. It makes teaching so rewarding when I get my kids excited about learning!
