Our students are talented, and live in a rural setting. We are a Title One School in Eastern Utah. COVID-19 has made us very isolated with few opportunities to participate in broader educational opportunities.
The students in our school are anxious to learn to program and use computer coding, but we lack the resources to provide them with this opportunity.
We average about 50 students in each grade. Many of our students receive free/reduced meals. They are eager to learn, and love learning new things!
New science standards include engineering. Our class will learn programming and design using Lego design and block programming materials to help them meet the new Utah state standards.
Students will design and engineer models to demonstrate gravity, motion and movement.
Hands on activities will help the students become more engaged in the learning and will help them learn elementary design and programming skills. Students will also have the opportunity to showcase their models, and demonstrate to others in our classroom their models, what they learned, and how they adapted their models to meet their engineering goals.
