My Students

My students come to class so excited to work on their STEM projects. This is the first year we have had a STEM specialty at our school and the kids love it. They are excited to explore, imagine, plan, create, and improve. My students understand that failing is an opportunity to try again and learn from what didn't work. Their projects often don't work the first time and they have to go back to their original plan and see what they need to do differently in order to succeed.

My students are so excited to be back in a classroom setting and to be able to work together in groups.

Covid has caused a lot of uncertainty and challenges but my students are happy to be in school. They come very many different backgrounds and home situations and yet they are eager to learn and participate. Having the right supplies helps me provide equitable learning experiences for each child.

My Project

I teach a STEM specialty to 20 classes of K-5th grade students. My students are given real world challenges and tasked with using the Engineering Design Process to come up with working solutions. We also use the design process to explore engineering, building and problem solving.

In order to have hands on learning experiences, the students need building supplies, especially reusable supplies.

In the coming months, the students will be engineering several projects including bridges, pin ball machines, bobsled runs and magnetic car tracks. These supplies will help them build their projects and learning about careers in Engineering and Design.
